Dolphin Field in Atlantic City, the longtime home of the youth football Dolphins, will go from green to gray as the city begins a $1.33-million renovation of the complex on Penrose Avenue.
Gray artificial turf will replace the 16-year-old green field as part of the renovation, which is funded through the New Jersey Green Acres program.

Other improvements will include concession stand and locker room renovations, upgraded lighting, new goal posts, new storage sheds and fencing, according to the city, which broke ground on the project on Monday.
Completion is projected in time for this fall’s Atlantic City Dolphins youth football season.

“These improvements will benefit its participants for many years to come, while giving our youth a field they can truly be proud of,” Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. said in a statement.
Last year, the city completed a $5.6-million renovation of Pop Lloyd Stadium and reopened it as a multipurpose sports hub. Next year, the city expects to renovate Pete Pallitto Field.
The Dolphin Field site contractor is Maruti Construction, and Keystone Sports Construction will install the new turf. Environmental Resolutions Inc. is the project’s design engineer.
