One of Manhattan’s oldest lumberyards is coming to Jersey City. The venerable Midtown Lumber will celebrate the grand opening of its new warehouse and retail store on Friday, June 16th, with a ribbon-cutting, catered BBQ, and an appearance by Mayor Steven Fulop.
Brothers Paul and Larry Kopf first opened Midtown Lumber in 1962 on West 25th Street in a historic building that previously housed a horse stable and later, the old West Side Lumber warehouse. For over 55 years, Midtown was a favorite of contractors and apartment owners, developing a reputation for accurate cutting and prompt delivery.
Paul’s son Michael eventually took over the store from his father and uncle, and ran it until 2017. Longtime Midtown employee Zach Chasky then purchased Midtown, and expanded it with the help of partners Alban Krasniqi and Albert Salaj, continuing to uphold the standards that led the Kopf brothers to success for over half a century.
The Jersey City store will open its doors at 11:30am, with the ceremonial ribbon cutting with Mayor Fulop starting at 12 noon. Immediately afterwards, lunch will be served by Big Ed’s Backyard BBQ.
The new store is located at 37 Fairmount Avenue in Bergen-Lafayette.
