A discount brand born in the Garden State will be adding a store to their portfolio in New Jersey’s largest city as Burlington be launching in Downtown Newark next week.
Burlington, named for the city in South Jersey and formerly called Burlington Coat Factory, is slated to open at 729 Broad Street in Newark on Friday, May 10. The launch follows the opening of a store in Clifton last week and an outpost along River Road in Edgewater that arrived just about two years ago.
Jersey Digs broke the news on the Newark store way back in 2021. Situated along one of Downtown’s main thoroughfares, the renovated space was previously home to a Dollar Bazaar.
“We’re continuing to expand our footprint across the country and are excited to be opening new stores in New Jersey,” said Burlington Stores CEO Michael O’Sullivan in an announcement. “We look forward to giving local customers the chance to discover big savings on a wide range of products.”
The brand, founded in 1972, operates 832 stores scattered throughout 45 different states and offers heavily discounted deals. Departments at the store include ladies’ apparel and accessories, menswear, casual finds for kids, unisex footwear, infant and toddler sections, home décor items, plus pet care and toy areas.
To celebrate the opening in the Brick City, Burlington says that it will donate $5,000 each to two nearby elementary schools in Newark and Clifton through its partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org.
The new store is situated adjacent to the steps leading in and out of the Military Park light rail station and along an emerging Broad Street retail corridor that includes spots like Sakura Japan, Blaze Pizza, Starbacks, Zaro’s, a Nike Factory Store and Whole Foods.
