Short for Community Supported Agriculture, the program allows a person to buy a “share” at the beginning of the farm’s harvesting season. In return, customers receive a full bushel of produce every week during the season, which totals about 32 quarts of green goodies.

The cost for a 10-week long share from Blooming Hill is $350 upfront, which works out to $35 a week for a ton of unaltered, organically grown fruits and veggies. Head farmer Guy Jones uses sustainable farming practices and supplies produce to several big-name NYC restaurants, including Hundred Acres, Il Buco and Momofuku.

Customers will receive what is available from the farm in the share, which usually includes at least one salad green, fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, and other goodies from the over 200 varieties of crops they grow at Blooming Hill. Pickups will be every Wednesday from 2pm-5:30pm at Hudson Table, who will be rounding out the effort by providing a weekly newsletter of recipes, tips, and tricks.

The hands-on cooking school, which is set to open up a second space next door to their 1403 Clinton Street spot on May 15th, is making one of their chefs available during pickup to discuss the farmshares with customers and help them make the most of their produce. Shares can be purchased at their website and any questions about the program can be directed to [email protected].
