New Jersey’s largest city is slated to welcome a new recreational cannabis facility after officials in Newark signed off on a plan to covert a former restaurant space into a dispensary called Motherland Cannabis Company.
Weehawken-based Motherland Cannabis Company gained approval from the Central Planning Board during their June 26 meeting to open up shop at 360 Broad Street. Formerly home to Big Man Restaurant, the spot is situated just north of Downtown Newark.
The plans, drawn up by Mountain Lakes-based Finnell Architecture, will revamp the entire building. The first floor will sport the retail area, while the property’s second floor is set to consist of an “order fulfillment area” to the sales floor.
The third floor of Motherland Cannabis Company’s facility will include a conference room, offices for employees, and a single-user restroom. No parking is included in the plan, but the dispensary is working on an agreement with a neighboring Taco Bell that would allow their customers to utilize a portion of their parking lot.
The company has not yet announced an opening date for their facility but have already created an Instagram account at the handle @motherlandcannabis.
The approval of Motherland Cannabis Co. comes just a few months after officials in Newark struck down a plan to open a dispensary in the Downtown, a plan that was backed by Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon.
