One of Jersey City’s most recognized restaurants is looking for a new owner. According to a recently posted listing, long-time downtown staple Marco and Pepe is up for sale.
It’s more than just the restaurant being offered though, as the entire building is for sale. The 4,500 sq. ft. two-story property at 289 Grove Street houses the restaurant on the main level with a party/event space on the floor above and a prep space on the basement level. The whole package is asking $3,700,000.
Per the listing, the sale comes with “turnkey operation for a very successful restaurant in the heart of Downtown Jersey City,” indicating that the restaurant is included in the sale.
Started by Ralph Rodriguez, the restaurant has been a staple on Grove Street since the early 2000’s. It’s named after the owner’s dogs, Marco and Pepe.
In 2003, Karla Cook and David Corcoran for the NYTimes ranked the eatery as one of the “Best Restaurants in the State”. Earlier this year, Thrillist ranked it the “Best Place [in Jersey City] to Bring a New Yorker”. Here’s hoping if the restaurant changes hands, it maintains its legacy.
