Members of the public are expected to be able to get a chance to weigh in this week regarding a mixed-use development proposal involving two properties in Jersey City’s Jackson Hill neighborhood.
An application that was sent to Jersey City’s municipal government shows that a five-story building with 36 residential units and 4,439 square feet of commercial space is being planned by 543 MLK Drive, LLC for 541 and 543-547 Martin Luther King Drive.
The site is located between Communipaw and Bramhall Avenues, a few yards away from the Jersey City Police Department’s West District headquarters.
Site plans from Devino Architects + Associates brand this project as “Verge” and indicate that there would be a mixture of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units along with a roof deck, bike storage area, and fitness center.
The developer’s application does not indicate plans for “affordable housing units” or parking.
An ownership disclosure form released by the City of Jersey City associates 543 MLK Drive, LLC with Abraham Stark and Menachem Hoffman. The company’s request for preliminary and final major site plan approval with a height variance is scheduled to be heard by the Jersey City Planning Board during a Zoom meeting that is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23.
Note to readers: The dates that applications are scheduled to go before the Jersey City Planning Board and other commissions are subject to change.
