The gut renovation of a historic brick building at 644 Washington Street has finally wrapped up and the corner storefront space hopes to welcome a new tenant to the Mile Square City sometime during the upcoming winter months.

Jersey Digs has confirmed that a showroom for The Shade Store is coming to the 1,053-square-foot retail at the property. Signage for the brand was approved by Hoboken’s Historic Preservation Commission at their October 7 meeting and formal construction work officially began at the space last week.

The Shade Store, who opened its 75th showroom last month on New York’s Upper East Side, has three other New Jersey locations in Montclair, Paramus, and Summit. The company’s goal is to provide a simple alternative to what can be a traditionally difficult shopping experience by offering customizable shades, blinds, and draperies.

The company was co-founded by Chief Executive Adam Gibbs, who comes from a family that has been in the home décor business for three generations.

The Shade Store has partnerships in place with companies like Restoration Hardware and designers including Jonathan Adler, providing over 1,400 in-stock fabrics that are all crafted in the United States to customers.

Newmark’s Rob Mackowski and Jerry Rockoff represented the landlord at 644 Washington Street, while Stephanie Greco of Greco Realty Group represented the tenant. If construction goes smoothly, The Shade Store hopes to open what will be their 76th showroom before the end of the year.
