A rapidly growing seafood chain is planning to open its next restaurant in western Hudson County.
Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood and Bar, which is based in Flushing, Queens, could open a location in Kearny in the near future. A legal notice issued in early July shows that an application was recently filed with Kearny’s municipal government that would allow the pocket liquor license owned by the Lease Rental Corporation to be transferred to Hook & Reel’s Cajun Restaurant Kearny, LLC affiliate.
The exact address of the Kearny location is unclear. While the legal notice mentioned that the liquor license would cover Unit B of 276 Passaic Avenue, Hook & Reel’s website states that the restaurant will be located at 200 Passaic Avenue. A Hook & Reel representative could not be reached for confirmation and comment. However, regardless of the specific address, it appears that the restaurant will be situated in the Kearny Plaza Shopping Center or within close proximity to the strip mall.
At the existing locations, appetizers include hush puppies, paella, and fried calamari. For the main course, customers can choose between crab legs, shrimp, clams, and other types of fish, pick what sauce they would like and how spicy they would like their meal to be, and choose between sides such as boiled eggs, corn on the cob, and sweet potato fries. The menu also includes make-your-own combos, seafood and poultry baskets, sandwiches, salads, and cocktails.
Currently, there are Hook & Reel restaurants in Florida, Idaho, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, and New York. The chain’s only existing New Jersey location opened this spring at Essex Green in West Orange.
Kearny is apparently not the only community in which Hook & Reel is planning to expand. In addition to a dozen other states, there are locations planned for Elmwood Park, Linden, and Union, according to the company’s website.
