A unique antique shop that served Brooklynites for nearly 20 years is coming back, only this time, the store will be located in suburban Essex County.

Moon River Chattel, which was run out of Williamsburg by Paul Sperduto and Christine Foley from 1995 until 2014, is preparing to open its doors in Downtown South Orange. The business will be located in the long-vacant former Pro Pets space at 154 Valley Street, at the corner of Third Street, according to the South Orange Village Center Alliance (SOVCA).

SOVCA Executive Director Bob Zuckerman told Jersey Digs that “we are thrilled to have them open in South Orange, as it will provide a unique retail offering that you don’t often find in the suburbs,” adding that “we believe their store will be a destination location so we were happy to assist them with finding the right spot so they could open here in the Village Center.”

According to Zuckerman, there is a chance that the business might be operated under a different name.

Brownstoner reported in 2014 that The Brooklyn location sold “building salvage, antiques, housewares, and new furniture” that was made using old and new parts. When their business closed, Sperduto and Foley wrote a letter to customers stating in part that “we are ready for a new challenge and to have a different life experience.”
