A popular corridor in Downtown Newark will once again be partially closed in the middle of the day once a week and converted into a pedestrian mall.

People who live, work, and visit the Central Business District of the state’s largest city can purchase their lunch from one of the dozens of restaurants in Downtown and can then sit and eat at one of the dozens of tables and chairs that will be set up on Tuesdays along the Halsey Street corridor. According to the Newark Downtown District (NDD), the block will be closed from Raymond Boulevard from 11:00am to 3:00pm every Tuesday throughout the summer months until October 10th. The NDD will operate an information kiosk in the middle of the street, and will distribute a flyer with discount offers at nearby businesses for customers using the pedestrian mall.

This is the pedestrian mall’s second season in operation. The first day of the program this year was held on June 6th.
