Another Essex County office building could be adaptively reused into a residential development.

An application has been filed with the East Orange Planning Board involving 55 Washington Street, a six-story building located a few blocks north of the Brick Church Station. A development proposal by 55 Washington EO, LLC involves turning the building into an eight-story structure with 90 residential units, according to a public notice.

A sign at the corner of Washington Street and Glenwood Avenue referred to the building as the “Washington Street Business Center.” There are 90 parking spaces on the premises, according to the notice, which added that the East Orange Planning Board is scheduled to hear this application during a Zoom meeting this Wednesday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m.

Few additional details have been released yet about the proposal, though it has similarities to the previously announced plans for the eight-story former home of the East Orange Board of Education on Park Avenue. Unlike several other local municipalities, the City of East Orange does not post planning and zoning board agendas on its website.

Note to readers: The dates that applications are scheduled to be heard by the East Orange Planning Board and other commissions are subject to change.
