The Garden State film production trend continues to hum along as Adam Sandler has been spotted in Hudson County on the set of the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2.
The film, a sequel to the 1996 comedy, is set to see Sandler reprise his role as a hockey player-turned golfer who becomes a phenomenon on the PGA tour thanks to his unorthodox swing. Netflix is producing the film, which has been filming around New Jersey since the beginning of the fall.
Per TapInto, filming on Happy Gilmore 2 kicked off in September at the Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club in Bedminster. The facility is home to the state’s only 54-hole golf course and presumably is where the film’s golf scenes were shot.
Sandler and co-star Ben Stiller were recently spotted in Kearny over the weekend shooting scenes for the upcoming film. Stiller will reprise his role as “Hal,” while original cast members Christopher McDonald and Julie Bowen are also set to continue their roles.
Details about the film’s plot have been otherwise scarce, but it has been reported that Travis Kelce, golfer John Daly, and Eminem will all have cameos in the film. Sandler appeared on Kelce’s podcast New Heights earlier this year to talk about the upcoming movie and revealed a few points.
“The movie itself picks up from an older guy who played golf a long time,” Sandler said on the podcast. “Some stuff goes on in his life, and he’s different — he’s a bit of a mess.”
Kearny isn’t the only spot Sandler and company have been spotted as of late. The film crew has visited Loki Café in Morristown, Faubourg in Montclair, and the Farmview Golf Center in Hackettstown among other locations while shooting the film, which is scheduled to wrap later this month.
Netflix is set to release the film directly to their streaming service sometime next year.
