A commercial building that has long stood at the western edge of two residential blocks in North Bergen could be replaced with a multi-family development depending on the results of a virtual hearing this week.
The North Bergen Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) is scheduled to conduct a special meeting this Thursday, June 25 to discuss a developer’s plans for 1418 27th Street. The agenda for the meeting states that a warehouse is expected to be replaced with a new building consisting of 36 residential units and 47 parking spaces, but few additional details have been released about the plans yet.
The existing building at 1418 27th Street stretches back to 28th Street and is situated across from the Grand27 apartment building. Part of the site offers northwestern views facing the Meadowlands, Bergen County, Essex County, and Passaic County. The premises are also close to a playground, an Aldi location, and a pedestrian bridge over Route 495 connecting the neighborhood with McKinley Elementary School.
The company that is proposing the new 36-unit development is 28th Street Associates, LLC. Tax records show that the firm, which is associated with a P.O. box in Weehawken, paid $800,000 for 1418 27th Street in 2017.
The ZBA’s meeting is scheduled to take place over Zoom beginning at 6:00 p.m.
