New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill and her family are set to part ways with their six-bedroom, four-bathroom home on South Mountain Avenue in one of Montclair’s most affluent neighborhoods. Just a few months after it was reported that the governor and her family had relocated to the governor’s mansion in Princeton, Gov. Sherrill has listed her family’s one-acre estate for $3.5 million.

Katie Scandalios, a sales associate with the Montclair-based real estate brokerage firm Stanton Company, is handling the listing on behalf of the governor, who grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, and became a resident of Montclair in 2010.

The three-story home was built in 1865 and is located less than a block from the Eagle Rock Reservation. It includes a full-size basketball court, a bluestone patio, four fireplaces, and a covered front porch.

The first level of the nearly 7,000-square-foot home includes a vestibule, foyer, great room, kitchen, dining room, pantry, parlor, porch, and powder room, among others.

The first four bedrooms are on the second story of the Empire Victorian-style home, while the third story includes two additional bedrooms and an office.

The estate also includes a partially finished basement fitted with an exercise room, rec room, and storage room.
Gov. Sherrill and her husband Jason Hedberg purchased the home for $1.7 million in 2010, when they relocated to the Garden State.

A New York Post report on the listing says Gov. Sherrill is the first governor in two decades to live in the gubernatorial mansion full-time. Another report in the New York Post from October 2025 notes that the governor owns two other homes in addition to the estate in Montclair; the governor and her husband also own a vacation home in Vermont and a townhouse in Washington, D.C.
