Chick-fil-A is gearing up to open its first Brick City storefront this fall. The restaurant franchise, known for its crispy fried chicken, waffle fries, and milkshakes, will open its first location at 2 Clay Street, near the Newark Broad Street station.
The franchise is looking to hire between 60 and 80 full- and part-time workers ahead of its opening at the former Burger King site at the corner of Broadway and Clay Street, next to Newark ArtSpace, according to a report in NJ.com.

The restaurant is slated to span 2,936 square feet and will include two drive-thru lanes. It will open approximately two years after the Newark Central Planning Board approved a site plan for the new restaurant, according to a report in TAPinto Newark. Planning board members voted to approve the application unanimously, despite LGBTQIA advocates raising objections to the project.
The new restaurant is slated to become the 72nd franchise in New Jersey, according to the company’s website, and will be owned and operated by Brian Madalion. The report in NJ.com said Madalion wants the new Chick-fil-A location to become a community hub that supports employee development.
Chick-fil-A’s announcement comes a few months after the restaurant chain announced it would open a brand-new location in Bridgewater. That location, at the Bridgewater Towne Center, 754 U.S. Highway 202, opened on June 4.
