20-Unit Building Proposed Near Newark’s Lincoln Park

A residential Newark neighborhood could possibly become home to more residents should a proposed development move forward.

A legal notice released earlier this month shows that a four-story building is in the works for 19-33 Murray Street, a property located at the corner of Sherman Avenue a few blocks away from Lincoln Park. If approved, the project calls for 20 residential units and 11 parking spaces on the premises. The company proposing the development is seeking Preliminary and Final Site Plan approval along with subdivision approval and variances such as insufficient front yard setback and insufficient building transparency, according to the notice.

The name of the developer behind this proposal is not listed in the legal notice. However, a document posted on Bidroom mentions that the YK Group is involved with the project as is Mountainside-based Netta Architects. The document, which dates back to November 6, is described as a progress set and features drawings that show plans for one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, along with a community room.

The property in question currently consists of two apartment buildings and a gated parking lot. Even if the proposed development ends up being constructed, the existing buildings are expected to remain standing next door.

As of when the legal notice was issued, the Newark Central Planning Board was scheduled to hear the application during its meeting today, November 29, at 6:30 p.m. at Newark City Hall.
