A property that once printed one of New York City’s major newspapers will soon be home new a new logistics center as demolition work has been completed at a large property just outside Liberty State Park.

Goodman Group has been busy tearing down the former New York Daily News printing site at 125 Theodore Conrad Drive during the summer months. The work marked the end of an era for the newspaper, who ceased printing operation at the property back in 2022.

Construction began in 1994 on the Daily News’ plant, which was then known as Liberty View and featured a groundbreaking ceremony attended by then-Governor Christine Todd Whitman and then-Mayor Bret Schundler. It opened in 1996 at the cost of $150 million, with the new plant’s printers allowing the paper to print in color for the first time.

Jersey Digs was lucky enough to be given a tour of the property back in 2017. The development slated for the site, called the Goodman Logistics Center Jersey City, is proposed to be a two-building complex that will deliver up to 427,130 square feet of warehouse space across 17 acres.

“Goodman Logistics Center Jersey City will set a new benchmark for high-productivity logistics space in one of the most supply-constrained markets in the U.S.,” said Anthony Rozic, CEO of Goodman North America. “Revitalizing this iconic site enables us to deliver modern infrastructure that supports the evolving needs of our customers.”

The company is currently advertising build-to-suit opportunities that are available for a limited time to accommodate a variety of uses, including advanced manufacturing, logistics, food and beverage, cold storage and operations requiring intensive automation or robotics.

The development can provide high-power supply, ample ceiling heights, floor capacity for heavy equipment, and trailer parking. A CBRE team of Kevin Dudley, Chad Hillyer, Nicholas Klacik, and Kate Granahan is spearheading the leasing on behalf of Goodman Group.

Goodman anticipates that the project will be delivered by the end of 2026.
