I’ve unearthed another property that was too good to not share. Referred to as a “Beverly Hills Palace” that was “Antonio Gaudi inspired” by its original listing agent, this property is in another league. Sidenote: Let’s just leave Antoni Gaudi out of this.
Things start out well. The listing agent knew enough to lead with the beautiful rooftop pool and multi-level rooftop decks. How inviting. It’s easy to imagine throwing some unforgettable summer time shindigs at this place.
Unfortunately the fun stops once we step inside where it oozes a dark, man-cave mishmash that never really comes together.
The property boasts some great features. For example, the original wide plank pine flooring, charming exposed brick and industrial heating ducts. However, things quickly deteriorate after that.
A lot of it could be the furniture and decorations themselves. Such as the giant four poster king bed set in the middle of the master bedroom. It’s hard to tell what exactly it is facing but from the pictures alone the placement seems odd.
The stone work in what I assume is the “grand ballroom” alongside the “artistic waterfall” is another shoot and miss. I’d expect this in the backyard oasis of a McMansion in Montclair, not in the grand ballroom of a Jersey City townhouse.
The listing bounced on and off the market from 2008 to 2013. Originally listed for $4.625 million it sold in 2013 after a 57% price cut for a more realistic $1.998 million. Not a bad buy at 7,000 square feet.
All critiques aside the place is certainly unique. I mean, where else in Jersey City are you getting a 4 car garage?! Let alone your own personal freight elevator. The potential is there. I’d love to see what the new owner has done with it.
