Wayfair, the online furniture and home goods retailer, announced that it will open its second New Jersey store in Cherry Hill in 2028.
An 86,000-square-foot store will open at Market Place at Garden State Park on Route 70, a venue that’s frequented by shoppers from Pennsylvania because it is a short drive from the Ben Franklin Bridge connecting to Philadelphia.
The Boston-based chain announced in June its first New Jersey store, which will open next year in the Nassau Park Pavilion in Princeton as part of Wayfair’s nationwide store plan.
While Wayfair made its name in online furniture sales, its expansion into brick-and-mortar isn’t a strategy shift. The Princeton store will be 135,000 square feet.
“Stores have always been a part of the plan,” Liza Lefkowski, Wayfair’s vice president of merchandising and stores, told Jersey Digs in a June interview.
Purchases for the home are “highly considered,” and customers want to see and touch products, she said.
“They want to sit on the couch. They want to turn on the lamp,” she said. “Having a store to go to is very comforting in a way.”
The store will offer a free design service, and many products will be available to purchase and take home. Wayfair will deliver other items from one of its fulfillment centers.
Wayfair has opened locations in Wilmette, Illinois; Atlanta and Columbus. Upcoming stores include Denver, Westchester, New York; Fort Lauderdale, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Altamonte Springs, Florida.
