Benchmark Senior Living and National Development have purchased a property in East Brunswick to develop as an 87-unit assisted living and memory care facility.

The project, at 566 Ryders Lane, was purchased from an affiliate of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Benchmark reported that construction has started on the three-story, 84,276-square-foot complex, with 62 assisted living and 25 memory care apartments. It will have a total of 100 licensed beds.

Completion is expected in 2028.

This will be the third senior living property that Benchmark and National Development have partnered on in New Jersey. The companies acquired Benchmark at Roseland last October, and Benchmark at Scotch Plains will open by the end of this year.

Benchmark is separately developing Benchmark at Cedar Grove, which is expected to open in early 2027.

“East Brunswick is an exceptional location for our continued growth in New Jersey, where we see strong demand for high-quality assisted living and memory care options,” Tom Grape, founder, chairman, and CEO of Benchmark Senior Living, said in a statement.

The company, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, operates 70 independent living, assisted living, memory care, and continuing care retirement communities in New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. National Development, based in Newton Lower Falls, Massachusetts, has developed and invested in more than 40 communities in the Northeast.

“New Jersey represents a compelling and growing market for high-quality senior housing, and East Brunswick will be an outstanding addition to our portfolio in the region,” Andrew Gallinaro, chief investment officer of National Development, said in a statement.
