A landmark that has stood in Downtown Newark for almost a century is showing signs of life after years of stalled redevelopment, with leasing operations now underway at the reimagined Griffith Building.
Plans to restore the property at 605 Broad Street have been in the works for decades. Originally built in 1927, the building was once home to the Griffith Piano Company and the Griffith Music Foundation.
The original building included offices, a showroom, and a recital hall for the music empire. The structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places despite being mostly vacant since the 1970s.

Plans for the revitalization picked up when the building was sold to Park Developers & Builders in 2021. Construction at the property has been surprisingly low-key over the years, but MIG Real Estate has now launched leasing at the site.
“We are incredibly proud to represent a project that means so much to Newark’s history and its future,” said Anthony Marin, CEO and Broker of MIG Real Estate in a statement. “The Griffith Building is more than a property — it’s a statement. A reawakening. And we’re curating an experience that speaks to the soul of this city.”

The building now includes 76 residential apartments that blend charm with contemporary convenience. The studio and one-bedroom homes feature central air and heat, in-unit washer/dryers, and granite countertops.
The most epic residence might be a two-story penthouse on the top floor that features a 400-square-foot private outdoor space. Rents at the property range from $1,800 to $3,150/month, with several affordable housing units available to apply for here.

The revamped Griffith Building additionally features 20,000 square feet of retail space spanning the ground and second floors, including a brand-new entrance that was completely rebuilt, a far cry from the long-boarded-up entry that had sat at the site for many years.
