Cooper University Health Care on Wednesday unveiled plans for a $300-million Gloucester Township outpatient campus that will be the Camden-based system’s largest ambulatory facility.

The 184,000-square-foot, five-story campus will bring more than 400 new health care jobs to the area, according to Cooper.

Cooper plans to build on 39 grassy, partly wooded acres next to Route 42 and the Gloucester Premium Outlets.

“As South Jersey continues to grow, so does the need for greater access to high-quality specialty care close to home,” Cooper board Chairman George E. Norcross III said in a statement. “This project will transform health care access in the region while creating hundreds of jobs and generating long-term economic growth for Gloucester Township and surrounding communities.”

Until the Gloucester Township campus opens, Cooper’s largest ambulatory care location has been in Moorestown, Burlington County, where the hospital spent $150 million renovating a former Sears store in the flagging Moorestown Mall before opening in November 2023.

“This new campus is part of Cooper’s commitment to delivering exceptional care in a lower-cost setting that is closer to where patients live,” Kevin O’Dowd, co-CEO of Cooper University Health Care, said in a statement. “By expanding the number of outpatient facilities, we are improving access to patient care, enhancing convenience for patients and families, and strengthening the delivery of health care throughout southern New Jersey.”

Cooper told Jersey Digs that financing details are not available “at this time.”

The market area for the new campus will cover much of South Jersey – Camden, Gloucester, Salem, and Cumberland, and beyond, Cooper told Jersey Digs.

Project design is expected to continue through the middle of next year, with state and local approvals anticipated this year and next.

The campus will open in spring 2029, after construction begins mid-next year and concludes in 2028, according to Cooper.

Cooper reported that the campus will feature:

  • Advanced specialty exam suites for cardiology, neurology, oncology, OB-GYN, orthopedics, urology, pulmonary, pain management, and additional specialties.
  • An MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper suite featuring radiation oncology and infusion services.
  • A next-generation radiology suite equipped with advanced diagnostic imaging technology.
  • A dedicated procedural suite for digestive health.
  • A modern ambulatory surgery center designed for seamless outpatient care.

Cooper University Health Care is in the midst of a major building boom.

Construction has started on a $3-billion expansion of Cooper University Hospital in Camden. In the first phase, the healthcare system is building a new 10-story, 345,000-square-foot patient tower with 125 private patient rooms, labor/delivery rooms, neonatal intensive care unit, and additional operating rooms.
