The proposal for a brand-new hotel in Bayonne was approved by a unanimous City Council vote. Part of the redevelopment plan for the shopping plaza South Cove Commons, the new hotel will overlook the Scottish links course of the Bayonne Golf Club. South Cove Commons is located off Route 440 at LeFante Way and currently includes anchor tenants Stop & Shop, TJ Maxx, Frank Theatres South Cove Stadium 12, Houlihan’s, and over a dozen other retail tenants across 225,000 square feet.

Alessi Development Company is heading up the project plan, which also includes an 80-unit residential building, new office space, an updated traffic pattern within the plaza, and a new commercial building in addition to the hotel. “[The development company] is redoing the whole thing. They’ll add a facelift to the whole area,” said Council President Sharon Nadrowski during the City Council meeting.

According to the developer’s website, they are working with Hilton and the new hotel will be 120 rooms, conveniently located across from the Caribbean Cruise Line Cape Liberty Terminal. “Businesses like the advancement of trying to do more on the property and we are all welcoming the hotel, office and residential unit. It should be a good project,” said city planner Sue Mack.

This will be the first hotel in Bayonne besides The Hudson Plaza Motel on Route 440 in the northwest part of the city.
