Update: Mack-Cali just announced Lutze Biergarten grand opening will come a day early due to forecasted rain. The beer garden will now open Thursday, May 4th.

Cultures collide and clink beer steins on Friday, May 5th as Lutze Biergarten celebrates its grand opening with a massive Cinco de Mayo party featuring food, drinks, live music, games, over 100 vendors, and a fireworks display on the Hudson River.

Cutting the ribbon on a German biergarten on Cinco de Mayo reflects how the day has been embraced by Jersey City residents as a celebration of culture and diversity. And really, when you think about it, beer is a universal language.

Lutze Biergarten will be located outdoors on Jersey City’s waterfront just south of 3 Second Street. And will feature “a variety of craft beers, cocktails, great food, games, and breathtaking views of Manhattan.”

It’s inspired by Jersey City’s history of welcoming immigrants, and America’s promise as a rich tapestry of their culture. It’s named for Wilhelm Lutze, a child of German immigrants who was born here in 1900 and spent his whole life in Jersey City. In his spirit, the biergarten will donate a portion of its profits to local charities.
