A property at the northern edge of Hudson County could see major changes should a new proposal by the site’s owner be approved in the near future.

An eight-story building is being planned for 9001 River Road, a tract situated just a few feet from the Edgewater border and the Porto by Antonio restaurant, on a block also known as Old River Road. The development is expected to include 66 residential units, according to a legal notice and documents from the North Bergen Department of Public Affairs. There would also be one commercial space in the building along with two levels of parking.

The plans are expected to go before the North Bergen Board of Adjustment during its regular meeting on Wednesday, February 6, at 6:00 p.m. 9001 River Road, LLC of Edgewater, the project applicant, bought the property for $2 million last year from a company in Fair Lawn, according to NJ Parcels. The site, which is situated near several other developments such as the townhouses at 8917 Old River Road and the Edgewater Harbor complex, contains a small parking lot and two buildings, one of which has been used over the years as a liquor store.

Four New Jersey Transit bus lines to Manhattan stop just down the street from the premises.

Note to readers: The dates that applications are scheduled to be heard by the North Bergen Board of Adjustment and other commissions are subject to change.
